Senior System Protection Engineer
Position Overview
Responsible for designing and setting transmission and generation systems, managing diverse assignments requiring advanced professional judgment and expertise in protection systems. Provides support to various departments related to protection and control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design complex transmission and generation protection schemes to ensure system integrity.
- Manage system protection projects.
- Work on both new and retrofit Protection and Control Projects.
- Prepare, review, and verify system protection designs and settings, transmission protection schematics, relay diagrams, and test plans for new systems.
- Review and approve designs and calculations to ensure proper system operation.
- Monitor inventory for relay protection components for facility ratings.
- Analyze system disturbances to determine cause/effect and necessary remedial actions.
- Develop system protection portions of substation operating instructions and assist in creating restoration procedures for unscheduled outages.
- Represent the organization on relevant technical committees.
- Stay updated on new technologies and participate in external organizations such as IEEE or standard drafting teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution required; advanced degree preferred.
- Registered or eligible to become a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
- Eight years of progressively responsible experience in electric power utility system protection, with an emphasis on design and settings. Professional registration or an advanced degree may substitute for one year of experience.
