Senior Telecom Designer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Telecom Designer to lead the planning, design, and documentation of telecommunications infrastructure for hyperscale data center projects. In this role, you will be responsible for developing robust, scalable, and future‑ready designs that support high‑density, mission‑critical environments. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, coordinate closely with clients, and ensure design integrity throughout all project phases.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in structured cabling systems, outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) design, and mission‑critical environments, along with strong proficiency in Revit and a solid understanding of industry standards. RCDD certification is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Telecommunications Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber‑optic infrastructure, for large‑scale hyperscale data centers.
  • Develop detailed Revit models, drawings, and documentation for telecom rooms, pathways, distribution systems, and equipment layouts.
  • Prepare high‑quality construction documents, including plans, elevations, details, and 3D coordination models.
  • Design OSP/ISP infrastructure to support backbone and horizontal cabling architectures.

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Serve as the senior technical lead on telecom workstreams, providing direction throughout conceptual design, design development, and construction administration.
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination with electrical, mechanical, architectural, and IT stakeholders.
  • Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and field conditions to maintain design intent.
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation quality, system integration, and alignment with specifications.

Standards, Quality, & Innovation

  • Apply industry standards including BICSI, TIA, ISO/IEC, NEC, and owner‑specific hyperscale design requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of internal design standards and best practices for mission‑critical telecom infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and scalability within telecom design processes.

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Work directly with hyperscale operators, cloud providers, and mission‑critical clients to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Mentor junior designers and modelers in telecom design principles, Revit workflows, and industry standards.
  • Communicate clearly with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of telecommunications design experience, preferably with a strong portfolio of mission‑critical or hyperscale data center projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit, including modeling complex pathway systems and telecom spaces.
  • Deep understanding of structured cabling systems, OSP/ISP infrastructure, equipment room planning, and cable management strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead telecom design packages independently.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills.
  • RCDD certification strongly preferred (or willingness to pursue).
  • Familiarity with hyperscale owner standards, cloud provider data center design practices, or large‑scale technology infrastructure programs is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Navisworks for clash detection and model coordination.
  • Understanding of power, cooling, and space requirements for telecom systems within mission‑critical environments.
  • Prior experience collaborating with large cloud services companies or colocation operators.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as high‑density fiber solutions, automated infrastructure management, and next‑generation connectivity systems.
