Senior Water Resources Engineer
Senior Engineer - Civil & Water Resources (Monterey Bay Area)
We're looking for a driven senior engineer with a minimum of 7 years of experience (10+ years ideal) to help plan, design, and deliver restoration efforts involving rivers, floodplains, and wetlands across both tidal and freshwater systems. In a project management capacity, you'll mentor junior team members and direct work including land surveying, drafting, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, engineering analysis, written deliverables, and on-site construction oversight.
Role & Responsibilities
- Managing projects, growing the business, and supporting marketing initiatives
- Producing detailed design drawings, technical specifications, budgets, calculation packages, and written reports, plus assisting with permit submittals
- Conducting field and topographic surveys and developing associated mapping
- Running hydrologic and hydraulic analyses
- Overseeing construction phases and performing follow-up monitoring after build completion
Desired Background
- At least 7 years of professional civil engineering experience
- Undergraduate degree (or higher) in civil engineering or a closely related discipline
- California PE license is a plus, though not required
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Experience in water resources or habitat/ecological restoration
- Skilled in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Familiarity with HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS preferred
- Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including non-technical colleagues
- Valid California driver's license
- Open to occasional travel (typically several days per month) and fieldwork in demanding outdoor settings

Working Conditions Our team enjoys a relaxed office setting with flexible hours, and reasonable accommodations are provided so every team member can perform their best. Fieldwork takes place throughout the year, with peak activity during the summer-to-early-fall in-water construction season. Outdoor assignments may occur in poor weather and on active job sites; certain locations are remote and rugged with unreliable cell coverage. Applicants should be physically able to navigate uneven ground and shallow streams while carrying survey instruments and other gear. Lodging and meals are covered for assignments requiring overnight stays.
