Role summary
The Senior Water Resources Engineer will support a diverse portfolio of projects under the direction of project and task managers while also providing leadership and mentorship to junior staff. The role combines technical delivery, client engagement, and business development support.
Key responsibilities
- Perform engineering calculations, hydraulic and hydrologic modelling, and technical analyses across a wide range of water resources disciplines
- Deliver design support, site evaluations, and engineering assessments for projects of varying complexity
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality reviews for junior engineers and project staff
- Support development and maintenance of internal technical knowledge systems and best practices
- Collaborate with business development teams to prepare proposals and respond to client requests
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and relationship management activities
- Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and technical forums
- Contribute to project delivery across disciplines such as:
- Flood risk and floodplain management
- Stormwater and green infrastructure design
- Watershed and water supply planning
- Hydraulics and hydrology modelling
- Groundwater and surface water analysis
- Dam safety and emergency action planning
- Climate resilience and sustainability planning
- Collection system modelling and CSO programs
- Water quality and environmental permitting
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Coastal, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Minimum 10 years of relevant water resources experience
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles and water resources systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally as required based on project needs
Preferred experience
- Hydraulic design of bridges and culverts using FHWA guidelines including HDS and HEC standards
- FEMA National Flood Insurance Program experience including CLOMR and LOMR preparation
- Strong technical expertise in hydrology and hydraulics modelling
- Experience in stormwater design for roadway and site development projects across urban and rural environments
- Dam and levee hydraulics including dam breach and routing analysis
- Municipal drainage design including storm sewer systems, culvert design, and outfall analysis
- Stormwater master planning and watershed level studies
- Familiarity with relevant software and tools such as:
- HEC RAS, HEC HMS, HEC 1
- HY8
- MicroStation and Geopak Drainage
- ArcGIS
- SMS SRH 2D
- CADD platforms including 3D and 4D design
Skills and competencies
- Advanced knowledge of GIS systems and spatial analysis
- Advanced proficiency in CADD design tools and workflows
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
- Experience with data analysis tools, modelling platforms, and scripting where applicable
- High level proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel and Word
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute to complex project teams
