Role Summary
We are currently partnered with a leading consulting firm seeking a senior-level engineer to lead electrical and control systems design for industrial and utility projects. This role involves technical leadership, cross-disciplinary coordination, and direct client engagement throughout all phases of project execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical and instrumentation design, system studies, and equipment specification, with a focus on delivering practical, high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Analysis
- Develop and review electrical design packages including one-line diagrams, grounding plans, lighting layouts, and conduit routing.
- Prepare cable schedules, power distribution layouts, and interconnection diagrams.
- Specify and evaluate electrical equipment such as switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, UPS, and distribution panels.
- Conduct system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination) using tools like ETAP or SKM.
- Perform calculations for cable sizing, voltage drop, and fault levels.
- Review vendor documentation and support procurement activities.
- Provide guidance to junior staff on electrical scope and deliverables.
Instrumentation & Controls
- Lead development of I&C design packages including instrument lists, loop diagrams, control panel layouts, and wiring schematics.
- Collaborate on P&IDs and control philosophies with process and mechanical teams.
- Specify PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP).
- Support network architecture design and integration planning.
- Mentor team members on control strategy and panel design.
- Assist with FAT/SAT documentation and field commissioning planning.
Project Execution & Leadership
- Contribute to conceptual design, proposal development, and execution planning.
- Participate in scope definition, cost estimation, and scheduling.
- Conduct site visits and field assessments to inform design decisions.
- Lead or support safety and risk reviews (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA).
- Maintain design quality through internal reviews and standards compliance.
- Serve as a technical liaison for clients, vendors, and project teams.
- Support construction and commissioning activities including RFIs and as-built documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in electrical and controls engineering.
- Experience with EPC project delivery preferred.
- Strong understanding of ANSI/IEEE standards and industrial design practices.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, SPI (Intools), and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Ability to travel as required by project needs.
