Structural Forensic Engineer

A well-established building science and forensic consulting firm is expanding its structural engineering capabilities and looking to bring on a senior-level engineer to help build out that practice. The firm has a strong reputation in building envelope investigation, diagnostics, and forensic consulting, and is now growing its structural forensic offering to better serve an existing and loyal client base. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape a practice within a firm that already has strong client relationships, a collaborative culture, and a proven platform to build from.

About the Role

The firm is seeking a Senior Forensic Structural Engineer to join their Seattle office on a hybrid basis. This is a meaningful role for an experienced structural engineer who is comfortable operating with some autonomy, excited by the opportunity to help grow something, and ready to bring both technical depth and client-facing credibility to a team that is invested in doing this right. You will work alongside building envelope and building science specialists on complex, multidisciplinary investigations while also leading and developing structural-specific engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead forensic structural investigations including failures, construction defects, storm and fire damage, and property loss events
  • Conduct site investigations, document conditions, collect evidence, and develop technical findings
  • Prepare clear and defensible reports summarizing investigation methodology, analysis, and conclusions
  • Develop repair scopes and cost estimates in support of insurance and legal proceedings
  • Collaborate closely with building envelope and building science team members on multidisciplinary investigations
  • Serve as expert witness or support expert witness testimony as needed
  • Manage projects from initial assignment through final report delivery
  • Coordinate with clients, attorneys, insurance adjusters, and other consultants throughout the process
  • Help develop and grow the structural forensic practice within the firm
  • Mentor junior staff as the structural team expands

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of structural engineering experience with meaningful forensic or existing structures exposure
  • PE license required; SE license required
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes, structural systems, and construction methods across multiple material types
  • Experience preparing technical reports for insurance, legal, or litigation support purposes
  • Expert witness experience preferred
  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment alongside non-structural building science professionals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed

If you meet the above qualifications and are interested in learning more, please apply and a member of our team will be in touch shortly.
