Superintendent - Light Industrial Construction - Columbus, OH

A highly respected design-build contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee field operations on large-scale industrial construction projects. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Superintendent will work closely with project leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, and owners while serving as the primary field representative responsible for day-to-day site operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all on-site construction activities from project mobilization through closeout.
  • Direct subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
  • Maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and proactively identify and resolve jobsite challenges.
  • Manage site logistics, temporary facilities, permit postings, safety requirements, and overall jobsite organization.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor activities to support project milestones.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety meetings, and immediately address jobsite hazards.
  • Review project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with quality standards and contract requirements.
  • Assist with project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change requests, meeting minutes, schedules, and progress reporting.
  • Coordinate meetings with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track subcontractor performance and communicate schedule or scope changes as needed.
  • Support punch list execution, turnover activities, and project closeout documentation.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with project stakeholders while representing the organization with professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of Superintendent, Construction Manager, or field leadership experience with a commercial or industrial general contractor.
  • Proven experience managing projects exceeding 50,000 square feet.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, safety practices, quality control, and contract documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field teams, coordinate subcontractors, and drive project execution.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and relocate based on project needs.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant construction experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible field leadership experience with a general contractor.
  • Prior experience overseeing industrial construction projects as the Prime Contractor is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from mobilization through closeout.
  • Proven track record of leading subcontractor teams, maintaining schedules, and delivering quality results in active construction environments.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Typical commercial and industrial construction site environment.
  • Ability to walk active jobsites, climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions depending on project location.
  • Strong visual, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license required.
  • Ability to travel extensively and support projects across multiple geographic markets.
