A long-established civil construction firm that operates nationwide is seeking a Steel Superintendent to oversee all structural steel activities on a Billion dollar bridge initiative. The organization is recognized for delivering technically challenging public‑sector work and maintaining strong partnerships with designers, trade crews, and project owners.

Position Summary

The Steel Superintendent will take responsibility for coordinating, sequencing, and supervising all steel erection and related field operations. This includes managing crews, working with fabricators and erectors, and ensuring accurate, safe installation of structural components in alignment with project plans and engineering requirements.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct field activities involving the installation of steel assemblies such as girders, truss elements, bracing systems, stair components, railings, and connection details.
  • Organize delivery schedules, erection sequences, and readiness of fabricated materials.
  • Work in partnership with project leadership, engineering consultants, and trade partners to maintain coordinated execution.
  • Review construction drawings, steel details, and contract documents to verify work requirements and tolerances.
  • Oversee workforce productivity, equipment needs, and daily safety practices.
  • Validate that field installations meet quality expectations, industry standards, and project-specific tolerances.
  • Conduct ongoing inspections of alignment, elevations, fit-up, and weld/bolt compliance.
  • Identify conflicts, fabrication challenges, or design deviations and assist with timely resolutions.
  • Maintain detailed daily records, inspection logs, and schedule updates for steel operations.
  • Serve as the primary field representative for all steel‑related communication between site teams and management.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years in heavy civil or structural construction, with significant experience in steel erection.
  • Prior supervision of major structural steel operations (superintendent, general foreman, or equivalent).
  • Strong command of steel erection methodology, bolting/welding standards, rigging practices, and structural alignment procedures.
  • Experience with movable bridge steel (lift, swing, or bascule structures) is essential.
  • Ability to interpret detailed structural drawings and steel fabrication documents.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
  • OSHA 30 preferred; additional certifications related to steel erection are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with construction management software and standard digital tools.
  • Background coordinating steel operations within broader heavy civil environments, including work alongside concrete and other trades.
  • Experience managing both union and non‑union field personnel.
