Survey Department Manager | Mt. Laurel, NJ

Our client is looking for an experienced Land Surveying leader to oversee and expand its surveying operations. This position is responsible for guiding departmental performance, managing project delivery, cultivating client relationships, and driving business growth. The ideal candidate is a licensed professional who can successfully balance technical expertise, staff leadership, and operational management while maintaining a high standard of quality across all surveying services.

In this role, you will direct survey projects from initial planning through final completion, support and develop field and office personnel, and collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure successful project outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building teams, strengthening client partnerships, and contributing to the strategic growth of a well-established engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the survey department.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, project stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Develop project scopes, prepare fee proposals, negotiate contracts, and oversee invoicing activities.
  • Supervise multiple survey crews and office staff, ensuring efficient project execution and adherence to quality standards.
  • Monitor schedules, resources, and budgets to maintain profitable project performance.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Promote and expand a full range of surveying and geospatial services, including laser scanning, LiDAR technologies, rail surveys, GPS surveying, and conventional land surveying.
  • Mentor staff and support professional growth within the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in land surveying, project management, and team leadership.
  • Proven track record of developing client relationships and generating new business opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of survey operations, project delivery, and financial management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, staff, and project partners.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information clearly and professionally.
