Tampa | Senior Bridge Engineer
Position Summary
The Senior Bridge Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, analysis, design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of bridge and other transportation structures. This role serves as a technical expert and project leader, overseeing complex structural projects from concept through construction, while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
- Lead the structural analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and ancillary structures in accordance with AASHTO, FHWA, state DOT, and local agency standards
- Prepare and review calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
- Perform load ratings, structural evaluations, and condition assessments for new and existing bridges
- Provide technical review and quality control of engineering deliverables
Project Management & Coordination
- Serve as Project Manager or Task Lead on bridge and structures projects
- Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, construction, and inspection teams
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client expectations
- Support proposal development, including scope definition and fee estimates
Construction & Field Support
- Provide engineering support during construction, including shop drawing review and responses to RFIs
- Conduct field inspections and site visits as required
- Assist with construction sequencing and constructability reviews
Mentorship & Collaboration
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
- Promote engineering best practices and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with clients, agencies, contractors, and other consultants
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); Structural Engineer (SE) license a plus
- 8-15+ years of experience in bridge and structural engineering
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- Experience with bridge design software (e.g., LEAP Bridge, LARSA, SAP2000, MIDAS, or similar)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Bentley or comparable design tools
- Experience working with state DOTs and/or FHWA-funded projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with major bridge types (steel girder, prestressed concrete, segmental, cable-supported, etc.)
- Experience with bridge rehabilitation and load rating
- Familiarity with inspection procedures and NBIS standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
