Transportation Drainage Engineer
Our client is seeking a skilled Roadway Drainage / Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) Water Resources Engineer to support transportation and municipal infrastructure projects across the Houston region. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong technical ability in drainage design and modeling, who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform drainage design for roadway, municipal, and flood control projects.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, including analysis for stormwater systems, channels, culverts, detention, and related infrastructure.
- Develop floodplain mapping, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
- Support design and plan production for transportation-related drainage systems.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with municipalities, counties, and other local agencies throughout project development.
- Collaborate with project managers, design teams, and subconsultants.
- Assist with QA/QC reviews and ensure technical accuracy of deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in water resources or drainage engineering.
- EIT or PE license (PE strongly preferred; EIT with track toward PE acceptable).
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Drainage design for municipal or transportation projects
- Hydrologic & hydraulic modeling (HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, HY‑8, SWMM, etc.)
- Floodplain mapping and/or FEMA processes
- Producing construction plans and drainage reports
- Experience working with local municipalities and county agencies (Harris County, Fort Bend County, City of Houston, etc.).
- Strong understanding of TxDOT standards is a plus, but not required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with flood control district projects (e.g., HCFCD).
- Familiarity with GIS tools for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Prior involvement in transportation-focused drainage design projects.
- Knowledge of local criteria manuals and drainage policies (City of Houston IDM, HCFCD Criteria, etc.).

- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Collaborative mindset with a problem-solving approach.
