Water/Wastewater Associate
Location: Virginia Beach, Newport News, or Richmond, VA (Hybrid)
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Water/Wastewater Associate to join their team in Virginia. This hybrid role can be based out of Virginia Beach, Newport News, or Richmond, and is ideal for a senior-level professional with a strong technical background and proven business development capabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading projects, building client relationships, and driving strategic growth in the water and wastewater sector.
About the Role
As a Senior Associate, you will serve as a technical leader and client-facing representative, managing complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects from planning through delivery. This seller-doer role combines project leadership with business development responsibilities, offering the opportunity to shape the direction of key initiatives and mentor emerging talent within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, identifying needs and delivering tailored solutions
- Drive business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client outreach, and strategic pursuits
- Manage project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure successful outcomes
- Collaborate with internal technical staff and external stakeholders to meet project goals
- Provide quality assurance and technical oversight across multiple concurrent projects
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to staff development and team growth
- Represent the firm in industry events, conferences, and professional associations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Proven track record of successful project delivery and client engagement
- Strong business development and proposal writing skills
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team management abilities
- Experience working with municipal and utility clients in Virginia or the surrounding region
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Experience with design-build or alternative delivery methods
- Familiarity with asset management, hydraulic modeling, and sustainability practices
- Established network within the water/wastewater industry in the Mid-Atlantic region
