Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Project Engineer to join their growing transportation team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of transportation projects, from local roadway improvements to complex, multi-million-dollar public infrastructure programs.
The Project Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop design plans, support project delivery, and help ensure successful project execution for both public and private-sector clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop civil engineering design plans and related project documentation
- Collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality designs on schedule and within budget
- Support technical project execution and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to maintaining strong client relationships and customer satisfaction
- Assist with project planning, design development, and construction document preparation
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support project and team objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois or ability to obtain Illinois licensure within 6 months
- 5-10 years of transportation design experience, preferably involving public agency projects
- Experience preparing plans and specifications for roadway and transportation infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge of industry standards and guidelines, including AASHTO, MUTCD, HCM, ADA/Accessibility requirements, and related transportation design criteria
- Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Geopak, InRoads, or similar transportation design software
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Experience
- DOT transportation project experience
- Familiarity with state and local agency design standards and project delivery processes
- Experience working within agency-specific CADD environments
