Controls Engineer - Data center Automation
Location: Northern Virginia (On-site with some regional travel)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: 140K+ performance bonus (based on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to support automation and control systems across mission-critical data center facilities in Northern Virginia. This role is ideal for an engineer with hands-on experience in PLC programming and Ignition SCADA, who thrives in fast-paced environments and understands the operational demands of large-scale data centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and commission control systems for HVAC, electrical, and mechanical infrastructure in data centers.
- Develop and maintain PLC logic and HMI interfaces using platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, or Schneider Electric.
- Configure and deploy Ignition SCADA systems for real-time monitoring, alarming, and data visualization.
- Collaborate with facility operations, construction teams, and third-party vendors to ensure seamless integration of automation systems.
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and system upgrades to maintain optimal performance and uptime.
- Document control strategies, system architecture, and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years (minimum) of experience in controls engineering, preferably in mission-critical environments such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and Ignition SCADA development.
- Strong understanding of building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, and electrical distribution.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, control schematics, and P&IDs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with BACnet, Modbus, and OPC protocols.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
- Knowledge of commissioning processes and validation protocols.
- Certifications in controls or automation (e.g., Ignition Certified, Rockwell Automation).
