About the Role
A well-established, 100% employee-owned engineering firm is seeking a Controls Engineer to join its Hampton, NH office. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in controls systems and a passion for delivering high-quality automation solutions in the Power Utility and Industrial sectors.
As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, programming, testing, and implementation of control systems, including SCADA, RTUs, PLCs, and related instrumentation. You'll also provide on-site start-up support and collaborate closely with clients and senior engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret customer requirements and collaborate with senior engineers to define project scope
Develop and maintain project documentation such as Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS), Software Design Specifications (SDS), Test Plans, and support materials
Design and implement control systems, including hardware and logic software, to meet machine and system specifications
Create control and network architecture designs, including IP schemes and network switch configurations
Program control logic and user interface applications using SCADA, RTU, PLCs, and other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs)
Utilize database tools such as SQL for system integration tasks
Select appropriate hardware, software, and instrumentation for control system designs
Develop detailed control system schematics and control panel layouts using AutoCAD
Provide field support during system start-up, debug, and commissioning
Support projects in industries including Power Utility, Food Processing, and Semiconductor Manufacturing
Participate in general administrative tasks and assist with assembling/wiring control panels as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field preferred
Associate degree in Engineering Technology with relevant experience may also be considered
3-5 years of hands-on experience in control systems engineering, particularly in energy, utilities, or industrial manufacturing
Proficiency with PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial networking
Familiarity with instrumentation and AutoCAD
Willingness to travel up to 30% for on-site support and commissioning
