Lead Substation Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering design and development of high-voltage substations (69kV to 500kV).
  • Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders including utilities, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC) and client requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Support procurement activities including equipment selection and vendor evaluation.
  • Conduct site visits as needed for project assessments and construction support.
  • Utilize engineering software such as AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, ETAP, and others.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation design and engineering.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of substation components including transformers, breakers, relays, and protection schemes.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and remote collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with renewable energy interconnections and grid modernization projects.
  • Familiarity with utility standards and permitting processes.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and integration.
  • Experience with BIM and 3D modeling tools.
