Principal Town Planner - Brisbane

We are currently working closely with a leading consultancy in Queensland who due to recent expansion are growing and looking for a Principal Town Planner to lead and manager complex development assessment projects across Queensland. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of Queensland's planning frameworks and a passion for shaping sustainable, livable communities.

As a senior member of the planning team, you will provide expert advice on statutory planning matters, manage high-profile development applications, and mentor junior planners. You will work closely with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality planning outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the assessment and management of complex development applications
  • Provide expert statutory planning advice to clients, developers, and internal teams.
  • Liaise with local and state government authorities, community groups, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review planning reports, submissions, and recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant planning legislation, policies, and guidelines.
  • Represent the organization in negotiations, appeals, and public forums.
  • Mentor and support junior planning staff and contribute to team development.
  • Contribute to business development and client relationship management.

Key Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in town planning, with a strong focus on development assessment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Queensland planning legislation, including the Planning Act 2016, State Planning Policy, and local planning schemes.
  • Proven ability to manage complex planning projects and deliver outcomes within deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working in or with local government is highly desirable.
  • Eligibility for or current membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
