Senior DeltaV Engineer

A leading engineering and automation services provider is seeking a Senior DeltaV Engineer to lead the delivery of large-scale automation projects within the biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in Emerson DeltaV systems and a strong background in regulated environments. The successful candidate will oversee the full project lifecycle-from design and implementation to commissioning and validation-ensuring compliance with industry standards and client expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and deployment of DeltaV control systems for complex capital projects in regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery.
  • Develop system architecture and control strategies that enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Design batch processes, phase logic, and recipe structures in accordance with ISA-88 standards.
  • Create high-performance HMI graphics using DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate, following ISA-101 guidelines.
  • Apply class-based configuration methods to promote standardization and reusability across projects.
  • Specify and design electrical systems including power distribution, control panels, and grounding schemes.
  • Select and procure instrumentation and automation hardware.
  • Design and implement industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus).
  • Integrate third-party systems using OPC UA, Modbus, and other industrial protocols.
  • Define computing infrastructure including server architecture, virtualization, cybersecurity, and redundancy.
  • Plan and manage DeltaV licensing strategies to align with project scope and user needs.
  • Oversee FAT and SAT activities, ensuring systems meet performance and compliance requirements.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and project teams.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure project alignment and success.
  • Troubleshoot complex automation issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • 8-15 years of hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV systems, including system design, configuration, and deployment.
  • Proficiency in DeltaV Live and Operate, with a strong grasp of ISA-101 HMI design principles.
  • Deep knowledge of ISA-88 batch processing and advanced control strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing full project lifecycles in regulated industries, preferably life sciences.
  • Familiarity with automation protocols such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking and system integration.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAMP5, cGMP, and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
  • Experience with electrical system design and integration with process control systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with server infrastructure, virtualization, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with OEM system integration and third-party equipment communication.
  • Exposure to other automation platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens PCS7, Ignition) is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Work Environment

Office Setting:

  • Standard office or cubicle environment
  • Frequent use of engineering software and control system tools

Field Work:

  • Occasional physical activity during commissioning (lifting, climbing, etc.)
  • May involve extended hours, weekends, or holidays based on project demands
