Senior Design Engineer
The Senior Design Engineer provides advanced technical leadership in electrical design and is responsible for solving complex engineering challenges with minimal oversight. This role requires strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles. Responsibilities include producing detailed design documentation-such as panel layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, and network drawings-while ensuring design quality and mentoring less experienced engineers.
Primary Responsibilities
Design & Project Leadership
Manage all electrical design activities for assigned projects, ensuring deadlines, design releases, and material specifications are met.
Serve as the main technical contact for customers throughout the design process.
Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical 2021 or newer, including smart block usage and attribute configuration.
Produce and revise highly accurate production drawings, including detailed and assembly-level documentation.
Prepare final design sketches, confirming all dimensions, electrical interfaces, and interconnection requirements.
Apply strong knowledge of engineering principles, mathematics, materials, and related sciences to complete design tasks.
Develop multi-view drawings for electrical panels and control systems.
Convert conceptual sketches into complete, finalized design documents.
Ensure all drawings comply with UL508A/ANSI standards and internal engineering guidelines.
Maintain an organized and accessible drawing archive.
Update legacy drawings to current AutoCAD Electrical formats.
Coordinate with quality assurance, engineering, and manufacturing teams regarding new or revised prints.
Oversee panel testing and inspections in accordance with established standards.
Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality oversight for junior and mid-level design engineers.
Cybersecurity & Compliance Responsibilities
Complete required ISO/IEC 27001 and ISMS training.
Continue developing skills in emerging control technologies, SCADA platforms, and industrial networking.
Maintain certifications in relevant design tools and stay familiar with UL508A/ANSI requirements.
Participate in process improvement initiatives and peer mentoring sessions.
Contribute to internal workshops and vendor-led engineering updates.
Secure Design & Documentation Practices
Enforce secure configuration management and access control policies across all project designs.
Ensure all design files, schematics, and network diagrams are stored and handled securely.
Protect sensitive configuration data, source code, and credentials from unauthorized access.
Lead secure design reviews for SCADA, PLC, and networked systems in collaboration with quality and security teams.
Ensure junior engineers follow secure documentation and design procedures.
Report any suspected security issues promptly.
Stay informed on cybersecurity trends in industrial automation and incorporate best practices into design work.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong understanding of engineering theories, principles, and analytical methods.
Extensive experience researching design challenges, evaluating alternatives, and presenting well‑supported recommendations.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Travel Requirements
