Our client is a leading engineering and technical services organization specializing in power systems engineering, electrical infrastructure, and reliability solutions for utility, industrial, and power generation clients. They are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support complex power system studies, plant modernization initiatives, grid interconnection projects, and electrical reliability programs across a diverse portfolio of energy and industrial facilities.
Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical lead for power systems studies and electrical engineering projects supporting power generation facilities, utility infrastructure, renewable energy assets, and large industrial operations. This individual will perform advanced analyses, develop engineering solutions, and provide technical guidance related to system protection, reliability, arc flash mitigation, and electrical system performance.
The role offers a blend of engineering consulting, client interaction, and field involvement, making it an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy solving real-world power system challenges while supporting critical energy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical power system studies, including:
- Short-circuit analysis
- Protective device coordination studies
- Arc flash hazard assessments
- Grounding studies
- Harmonic and power quality analysis
- Load flow and system modeling
- Support power generation facilities including combined cycle, simple cycle, cogeneration, renewable energy, and utility-scale power plants.
- Develop technical recommendations to improve electrical system reliability, safety, and operational performance.
- Evaluate generator interconnections, plant electrical systems, switchgear, substations, and medium/high-voltage distribution networks.
- Design, analyze, and troubleshoot protective relaying and control schemes.
- Interface directly with plant managers, operations teams, maintenance personnel, and engineering leadership.
- Support commissioning, startup, outage planning, troubleshooting, and plant modernization projects.
- Provide technical leadership on electrical studies associated with generation assets, utility systems, and industrial facilities.
- Prepare engineering reports and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence within the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems analysis, or protection & controls.
- Strong understanding of:
- Electrical distribution systems
- Power system protection
- Arc flash analysis
- Short-circuit calculations
- Grounding and power quality
- Generator and utility interconnections
- Ability to work in both engineering office and field environments.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience within:
- Power generation facilities
- Utilities and transmission/distribution systems
- EPC environments
- Renewable energy projects
- Heavy industrial manufacturing
- Experience with:
- ETAP
- SKM PowerTools
- EasyPower
- ASPEN OneLiner
- Protective relay settings, testing, and commissioning experience.
- Familiarity with NERC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA 70E, and utility compliance standards.
