Position Overview
We are working with a client who is a growing national engineering firm and they are seeking a Senior Structural Project Engineers to support and lead the design and analysis of complex transportation structures. In this role, you will serve as a technical lead, applying advanced engineering judgment, project leadership skills, and structural expertise to deliver high‑quality bridge design solutions for state DOT and municipal clients across the U.S.
This position may be performed remotely or from one of several office locations.
Essential Functions
- Apply structural engineering principles to lead the design of bridge structures that meet technical, regulatory, and client requirements
- Perform and review complex structural analyses using industry‑standard tools such as MicroStation, Leap Bridge Concrete, AASHTOWare BrR, Open Bridge Designer, and similar software
- Oversee and develop detailed design drawings, technical calculations, and construction documents with strong attention to accuracy and constructability
- Manage or significantly contribute to multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring successful execution of bridge and transportation structure projects from concept through delivery
- Coordinate with contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to maintain schedules, budgets, and quality expectations
- Ensure rigorous adherence to QA/QC procedures, including reviews of calculations, plans, and specifications
- Serve as a technical resource for solving complex structural challenges and providing innovative design solutions
- Engage with clients to communicate project progress, address questions, and identify future opportunities
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of civil engineering experience with a strong emphasis on bridge and transportation structure design
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Experience with AASHTO, LRFD, and state DOT design standards
- Proven ability to perform and oversee QA/QC for complex structural designs
- Experience working with DOTs, municipalities, and county agencies
- Strong communication, leadership, and team‑coordination abilities, including mentoring junior engineers
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Experience designing both new and rehabilitated bridges, retaining walls, culverts, noise walls, and other transportation structures
- Experience with contractor/design team coordination, including design‑build or CM/GC project environments
