Senior Staff Environmental Scientist (CSST)

Location: Irvine, California

A well-established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Senior Staff Environmental Scientist to support a growing hazardous materials and industrial hygiene practice throughout Southern California.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and lead-based paint surveys.
  • Perform hazardous materials assessments and building inspections.
  • Provide abatement monitoring and field oversight during remediation activities.
  • Support industrial hygiene investigations and evaluations.
  • Collect field data, photographs, samples, and site observations.
  • Prepare hazardous materials inventories and quantity estimates.
  • Review project documents, site history, aerial photographs, and background records.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, project schedules, and field logistics.
  • Assist Project Managers with technical reporting and project execution.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Attend project sites throughout Southern California as required.

Qualifications

  • Active CSST (Certified Site Surveillance Technician) certification required.
  • Approximately 2+ years of experience performing hazardous materials, asbestos, lead, industrial hygiene, or related environmental consulting work.
  • Experience conducting asbestos and lead surveys.
  • Experience performing abatement monitoring.
  • Knowledge of California hazardous materials regulations and industry practices.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and effectively manage multiple assignments.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HAZWOPER Training.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
  • Lead Inspector certification.
  • Experience with mold investigations.
  • Additional hazardous materials certifications.

Work Environment

This is a predominantly field-based position, with approximately 80-90% of time spent on project sites.

Project schedules vary based on client needs, creating a dynamic work environment where no two weeks are the same. Some projects may last a single day, while others may continue for several months. Candidates should be comfortable supporting changing schedules and responding to project demands throughout Southern California.
