Position Summary:
The client is seeking a seasoned Superintendent to oversee field operations for transmission and distribution (T&D) utility projects in Central Pennsylvania. This role involves managing underground and overhead construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence across multiple job sites. The Superintendent will coordinate with utility clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver reliable infrastructure for electric power systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise construction of transmission (69kV-345kV) and distribution (4kV-35kV) lines, including underground duct banks, manholes, cable installations, overhead poles, towers, and conductor stringing.
- Lead daily field operations, managing crews and subcontractors across multiple sites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NESC, environmental regulations, and utility standards.
- Interpret construction drawings, one-line diagrams, and specifications.
- Maintain project schedules, monitor productivity, and adjust resources to meet milestones.
- Conduct daily safety briefings, site inspections, and enforce safety protocols.
- Interface with utility representatives, inspectors, and engineering teams to resolve field issues.
- Document daily progress, redlines, change orders, and field reports.
- Support commissioning, testing, and energization activities.
- Manage material deliveries, equipment logistics, and inventory tracking.
- Enforce union labor agreements (if applicable) and maintain positive labor relations.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in utility construction, with a focus on transmission and distribution systems.
- Proven leadership in managing underground and overhead construction crews.
- Strong knowledge of trenching, conduit installation, cable pulling, pole setting, tower erection, and line stringing.
- Familiarity with Central PA utility standards and permitting processes.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in project management and reporting tools.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Central Pennsylvania.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with regional utilities such as PPL Electric, FirstEnergy, or PECO.
- OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant safety certifications.
- Experience in union labor environments and collective bargaining agreements.
- Knowledge of SCADA, protection systems, and commissioning protocols.
