Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Roadway Group Lead to help grow and lead a transportation design team. This senior-level position is responsible for technical leadership, staff development, and contributing to business growth across roadway and highway projects in the region.
This is a key leadership opportunity to influence project delivery, mentor engineers, and play a strategic role in expanding a growing transportation practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and team leadership for roadway and highway design projects
- Oversee the preparation of roadway design plans, reports, specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Serve as Engineer of Record and ensure quality control of deliverables
- Mentor and develop engineering staff, supporting both technical and professional growth
- Coordinate with project managers, internal teams, and subconsultants to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with transportation agencies and municipalities
- Support business development efforts including proposals, scopes, and client presentations
- Contribute to the strategic growth of the roadway/transportation practice in the region
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
- 10+ years of progressive experience in roadway or highway design
- Strong knowledge of DOT standards and transportation design practices
- Proficiency with roadway design software (e.g., OpenRoads, Civil 3D) and Microsoft Office tools
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a technical lead, group lead, or similar leadership role
- Business development experience with public sector transportation clients
- Familiarity with multimodal design (complete streets, trails, ADA compliance)
- Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ASHE, ACEC, or similar)
