Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Roadway Group Lead to help grow and lead a transportation design team. This senior-level position is responsible for technical leadership, staff development, and contributing to business growth across roadway and highway projects in the region.

This is a key leadership opportunity to influence project delivery, mentor engineers, and play a strategic role in expanding a growing transportation practice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and team leadership for roadway and highway design projects
  • Oversee the preparation of roadway design plans, reports, specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • Serve as Engineer of Record and ensure quality control of deliverables
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, supporting both technical and professional growth
  • Coordinate with project managers, internal teams, and subconsultants to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships with transportation agencies and municipalities
  • Support business development efforts including proposals, scopes, and client presentations
  • Contribute to the strategic growth of the roadway/transportation practice in the region

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in roadway or highway design
  • Strong knowledge of DOT standards and transportation design practices
  • Proficiency with roadway design software (e.g., OpenRoads, Civil 3D) and Microsoft Office tools
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a technical lead, group lead, or similar leadership role
  • Business development experience with public sector transportation clients
  • Familiarity with multimodal design (complete streets, trails, ADA compliance)
  • Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ASHE, ACEC, or similar)
