About the Opportunity

A global specialty solutions provider is seeking an Account Manager to own, retain, and grow customer relationships within an assigned territory. This role is focused on long-term account management, profitability, and customer satisfaction, serving as the primary commercial contact for existing customers.
The Account Manager partners closely with internal teams to ensure consistent service delivery, application reliability, and alignment between customer needs and business objectives.

Role Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for managing assigned customer accounts to drive profitable growth, ensure retention, and strengthen long-term partnerships. This role maintains existing business while expanding applications and share of wallet through value-driven account development rather than transactional selling.

Key Responsibilities

Account Growth & Expansion

  • Drive year-over-year revenue growth within existing accounts through cross-selling and upselling
  • Identify and commercialize new applications within current customers
  • Increase share of wallet through strategic account planning and relationship management
  • Handle customer orders and requirements through clear, timely communication
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and opportunity tracking using CRM and planning tools
  • Monitor pipeline health, including opportunity size, stage progression, and conversion rates

Profitability Optimization

  • Optimize product mix to balance customer performance needs and profitability goals
  • Identify margin improvement opportunities within assigned accounts
  • Execute pricing actions in alignment with established pricing strategies
  • Collaborate with technical and functional teams to rationalize or substitute products to improve cost efficiency

Account Retention & Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customer stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Proactively identify and mitigate attrition risks
  • Conduct regular business and strategic reviews to ensure alignment and satisfaction
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by demonstrating value delivered and identifying improvement opportunities

Strategic Account Ownership

  • Act as the primary owner and single point of contact for assigned accounts
  • Build multi-level relationships across customer organizations (operations, purchasing, technical teams)
  • Implement standardized account management practices where applicable
  • Resolve issues promptly and proactively manage customer satisfaction

Financial & Operational Accountability

  • Meet or exceed sales, gross profit, and margin targets for assigned accounts
  • Support receivables management, including credit limits and overdue balances
  • Manage costs in line with account profitability plans
  • Support inventory optimization by promoting movement of aged or strategic products
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and commercial obligations

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner with customer service, planning, laboratory, R&D, and supply chain teams
  • Coordinate with field service teams to ensure high service standards
  • Align internal stakeholders around customer priorities and commercial strategies
  • Utilize digital tools and systems to support planning, execution, and reporting

Application Reliability & Service Oversight

  • Monitor application performance and conduct testing as required
  • Troubleshoot process and application issues in coordination with technical teams
  • Prepare and maintain accurate service documentation
  • Support customer equipment reliability, uptime, and performance

Safety & Risk Management

  • Adhere to company and customer safety and stewardship policies
  • Promote a strong safety culture through participation in safety programs
  • Conduct job safety analyses to identify and mitigate workplace hazards

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
  • 0-1 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of industrial or process-related environments
  • Experience supporting chemical or specialty product applications preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel
