Salary: $115,500 - $150,000
Position Overview:
Seeking a Air Quality Managing Consultant to support complex air quality, permitting, compliance, and climate-related projects for industrial, energy, and commercial clients. This role will serve as a technical lead within a collaborative Air & Climate team, overseeing project execution, managing client relationships, and providing strategic guidance on regulatory compliance and air quality programs. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in air permitting, emissions estimation, air dispersion modeling, and environmental compliance while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical reviews and interpret local, state, and federal air quality regulations, including Clean Air Act programs.
- Lead complex air quality and environmental compliance projects while overseeing consultant-level staff.
- Prepare and manage air permit applications, compliance reports, and other regulatory deliverables.
- Perform emissions calculations and evaluate air pollution sources and control technologies.
- Manage client relationships, project scope, budgets, schedules, proposals, and multidisciplinary teams while ensuring successful project delivery.
- Conduct regulatory applicability analyses and coordinate with regulatory agencies throughout the permitting process.
- Support air dispersion modeling efforts and evaluate modeling results for compliance and project planning.
- Communicate technical environmental information through reports, presentations, and stakeholder interactions.
- Mentor and develop junior staff in technical and consulting competencies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related physical science discipline.
- 10+ years of air quality consulting experience involving permitting, compliance, and/or air dispersion modeling.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects, including proposal development, budgeting, scheduling, and team leadership.
- Strong understanding of air pollution control technologies and air quality regulations.
- Experience preparing complex air permit applications, including NSR/PSD and Title V permits.
- Experience conducting emissions calculations, regulatory applicability analyses, and agency coordination through permit issuance.
- Knowledge of federal and state air programs, including NSR/PSD, Title V, NSPS, and NESHAP requirements.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information through reports, presentations, and regulatory interactions.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience managing client relationships and supporting business development efforts.
- Multi-state air permitting and regulatory compliance experience.
Strong knowledge of AERMOD and other air dispersion modeling tools. - Experience with programming languages such as Python or R and working with databases.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior consultants.
- Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, energy, or other complex regulated facilities.
