Assistant Project Manager
About the Opportunity
A nationally recognized project advisory and owner's representation firm is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale data center and mission-critical projects across Michigan.
This position offers the opportunity to work directly with developers, end users, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders throughout the full project lifecycle. The successful candidate will help manage planning, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout activities while acting as an extension of the owner's team.
This role is ideal for individuals currently working as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Field Engineer, or Construction Coordinator who are interested in transitioning from the contractor side to an owner's representative environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers in delivering complex data center projects.
- Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and reporting processes.
- Coordinate activities between owners, consultants, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, risks, and key milestones.
- Review and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Attend project meetings and provide detailed meeting minutes and follow-up actions.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress and quality.
- Prepare client-facing reports, dashboards, and status updates.
- Support design coordination, pre-construction efforts, and project execution strategies.
- Assist with commissioning, turnover, and final project closeout activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- 2-5 years of experience in construction, project management, project engineering, development, or owner's representation.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
Preferred Experience
- Data center, mission-critical, industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or large commercial construction experience.
- Exposure to projects valued at $50M+.
- Experience working for a General Contractor, Developer, EPC firm, or Owner's Representative.
- Understanding of commissioning and turnover processes.
