Bridge Engineer
A minority-owned engineering consulting firm headquartered in Washington, DC is seeking a qualified Structural Bridge Engineer - Project Manager to join its team in Silver Spring, Maryland. The firm promotes community involvement, professional development, and offers a limited remote work schedule.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the design and analysis of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures. This role involves preparing structural calculations, developing contract documents, and coordinating with various disciplines and agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze transportation structures including bridges and retaining walls
- Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and specifications in accordance with standards (AASHTO, ACI, AISC, MDOT-SHA, MDOT-MDTA, etc.)
- Conduct evaluations and develop design recommendations
- Review structural documents for interdisciplinary conflicts
- Coordinate plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Participate in agency reviews for code compliance
- Manage load rating computations for public infrastructure
- Oversee hydrology and hydraulic analyses related to bridge design
Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational abilities
- Collaborative mindset and positive work ethic
- Familiarity with MDOT standards preferred; DDOT or VDOT experience also considered
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering (required)
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering (preferred)
- Minimum of six years of experience in structural engineering for transportation projects
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Maryland (required)
