Business Development Manager - Energy Storage & Data Infrastructure
Are you ready to help shape the next generation of Japan's energy and digital infrastructure? We are seeking a Business Development Manager to drive the planning and development of large‑scale battery storage facilities and container‑type data‑center projects. Join a forward‑thinking organization at the forefront of integrating power and computational infrastructure into a unified, sustainable model.
About the Opportunity
Japan is facing increasing constraints in power supply and demand, while new large‑scale needs such as AI and high‑performance computing continue to surge. At the same time, opportunities are expanding for integrating battery storage with power plants, transmission infrastructure, and major energy‑consuming sites.
This newly formed division (established in January 2026) was created to design, conceptualize, and implement battery‑based power infrastructure and computation infrastructure as a single, interconnected system-not as separate businesses, but as one cohesive industrial model. As a core member of this team, you will help lead these next‑generation projects from concept to commercialization.
Mission of the Department
- Develop integrated business models that combine battery storage infrastructure and container‑type data centers as a unified system within Japan's power grid.
- Build long‑term, sustainable infrastructure solutions across the boundaries of generation, transmission, demand, and computational load.
- Move beyond siloed optimization and create infrastructure models that reflect the intertwined realities of technology, policy, markets, and finance.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead planning and development across multiple categories of energy‑storage projects, including:
Battery Storage Facility Development
- Co‑location with large‑scale power plants
- Deployment alongside transmission and distribution assets (substations, switching stations, transmission towers, etc.)
- Integration into major industrial or high‑consumption electricity sites
Business & Financial Planning
- Internal coordination of financial considerations for battery‑storage business models
- Policy and regulatory engagement related to storage‑based energy projects
Data Infrastructure Development
- Planning and development of container‑type data‑center facilities, aligned with power‑system realities
Strategic Initiatives
- Alliance‑driven business creation
- Evaluation and promotion of new business opportunities
Team Vision
- View energy storage, power assets, and data‑infrastructure assets not as separate businesses, but as one interconnected infrastructure ecosystem.
- Understand and leverage technology, regulation, market design, and finance as highly interdependent drivers.
- Build scalable infrastructure models that can thrive under Japan's power‑supply constraints.
- Grow into a strategic role that can confidently engage with utilities, data‑center operators, investors, and government stakeholders.
Why This Role Is Exciting
Japan is at a pivotal moment where the future of energy security and digital autonomy are rapidly converging. AI demand is exploding-but AI only functions where stable and sufficient electricity exists.
In this role, you will:
- Work at the intersection of two national‑level infrastructure domains: electricity and computation.
- Take responsibility not only for planning but also implementation and operationalization.
- Shape next‑generation infrastructure by integrating technology, policy, business strategy, and finance.
- Build a career pathway that can extend into executive leadership, investment, and national‑scale infrastructure strategy.
- Operate in a fast‑moving, intellectually challenging environment where your decisions directly influence Japan's energy and digital future.
This is a rare chance to help architect an entirely new category of infrastructure-and to grow your professional "combat power" while working collaboratively across internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Experience in one or more areas of infrastructure‑related business:
(energy, power, plants, large‑scale equipment, business development, corporate planning, project investment, or similar) - Proven track record of managing multi‑stakeholder projects
- Ability to synthesize and communicate technology, regulation, and business feasibility together
- Decision‑making experience in high‑uncertainty environments
- A proactive mindset toward cross‑functional collaboration within a fast‑evolving energy‑technology company
- Fluent Japanese and English
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of battery‑storage facilities, power plants, transmission & distribution assets, or data centers
- Understanding of EPC, O&M, or project finance
- Experience with electricity markets, supply‑demand balancing, or market‑design engagement
- Negotiation experience with investors or financial institutions
- Experience in launching or scaling new businesses
