A respected engineering consultancy is seeking a Civil Project Manager to lead multidisciplinary civil engineering projects across a range of industries. This role involves managing project delivery, mentoring technical staff, and ensuring compliance with design standards and regulatory requirements.
You'll be responsible for overseeing design, planning, budgeting, and client coordination, while contributing to business development and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
- Develop detailed project plans including scope, timelines, milestones, and resource allocation
- Coordinate with clients, architects, and internal teams to align project goals
- Manage budgets, schedules, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality outcomes
- Ensure written authorization and contracts are in place before initiating work
Engineering Oversight
- Guide civil and structural analysis to ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations
- Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications
- Lead quality control efforts including site inspections and audits
Team Leadership
- Mentor and manage engineers, drafters, and project staff
- Delegate tasks effectively and foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment
- Participate in performance reviews and professional development planning
Client Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients
- Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and budget status
- Identify opportunities for future collaboration and additional services
Risk & Financial Management
- Identify and mitigate project risks
- Resolve conflicts and adapt to changing project conditions
- Monitor project budgets and ensure financial targets are met
- Support revenue, EBITDA, and utilization goals
Business Development (up to 20%)
- Assist in developing new business with assigned clients
- Prepare proposals including scope, schedule, and fees
- Attend industry events and conferences to build relationships
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in land development or related civil engineering fields
- Proven experience in mentoring and leading engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations
- Proficiency in project management and technical writing
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to travel for client meetings and site visits
- NCEES Record (preferred)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to conduct site visits as needed
- Frequent use of hands for typing and handling materials
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods
- Visual acuity for close and distance work, including color vision
- Occasionally lift/move up to 20 pounds
