Position: Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) / Survey Manager
HCL Engineering & Surveying is seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and grow our surveying operations in the Denver metro area. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed survey professional who enjoys both project management and team leadership while remaining involved in technical surveying work.
As the Survey Manager, you will oversee survey projects from proposal through final deliverables, mentor field and office staff, maintain strong client relationships, and help drive the continued growth of HCL's surveying services throughout Colorado.
Responsibilities
- Manage a variety of survey projects including ALTA/NSPS, boundary, topographic, subdivision, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Oversee field crews, survey technicians, and CAD staff to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Prepare and review plats, legal descriptions, survey reports, and mapping deliverables.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Serve as the surveying point of contact for clients, contractors, developers, and municipalities.
- Support business development efforts through proposal preparation, networking, and client relationship management.
- Maintain quality control and adherence to Colorado surveying standards.
- Mentor and develop junior survey professionals and field personnel.
- Coordinate closely with engineering and land development teams on multidisciplinary projects.
- Provide technical guidance and sign/seal survey documents as required.
Qualifications
- Active Colorado Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
- 8+ years of progressive land surveying experience.
- Previous experience managing survey projects and personnel.
- Strong knowledge of Colorado surveying principles, boundary law, and land development processes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and common survey data processing software.
- Experience with GPS, robotic total stations, and modern survey technologies.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading survey departments or regional survey operations.
- Business development and client-facing experience.
- Background in land development, transportation, municipal, or infrastructure projects.
- FAA Part 107 Drone License is a plus.
