Commercial Project Architect

A highly reputable, 30-year-old California-based design practice specializing in S&T architectural work is hiring a Commercial Project Architect --focused on Core & Shell Interiors-- to join their team in San Diego!

Responsibilities

  • Manage small to mid-sized commercial projects or lead large-scale efforts, with a focus on both core & shell and interior architecture.
  • Produce and coordinate complete construction documentation for permitting and bidding.
  • Respond to plan check comments and interface with local agencies and authorities.
  • Lead construction administration activities, including site observations, RFIs, submittals, and punch walks.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure project alignment and delivery.
  • Develop project manuals and specifications; review materials and shop drawings.
  • Support contract management and contribute to scope and fee negotiations.
  • Build and maintain client relationships through trust, communication, and project excellence.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in commercial work, with a strong technical background.
  • Experience in both core & shell and interiors projects.
  • Demonstrated success as a project architect on a range of corporate project types (office, conference center, life science, healthcare, or high-tech laboratory design a plus).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
  • CA RA or actively pursuing licensure.
  • Deep understanding of building systems, materials, and construction techniques.
  • Familiarity with building codes, CBC, ADA, and entitlement processes.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD required; experience with Bluebeam, ACC, BIM360, and MS Office is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • LEED and/or WELL accreditation is a plus.
