Commissioning Engineer - Industrial
Position Overview
A nationally recognized engineering consultancy is seeking a Commissioning Engineer with expertise in industrial systems and water technologies to support high-performance infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for professionals who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about ensuring mission-critical systems operate reliably and efficiently. You will be working on MEP focused systems for data centers while also combining your expertise in water and industrial systems for cutting edge data projects!
The position is remote-based, but requires frequent travel to client sites across the U.S. and internationally. Projects are primarily focused on data centers and other high-demand facilities, involving complex mechanical, electrical, and water treatment systems.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Execution & Site Leadership
- Perform on-site inspection, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and water systems.
- Lead functional performance testing and startup activities for industrial cooling and water treatment systems.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and client teams to ensure systems meet design and operational requirements.
- Serve as the primary technical contact during commissioning phases.
Project Management & Documentation
- Develop commissioning plans, test scripts, and pre-functional checklists.
- Review design documents and specifications for constructability and commissioning readiness.
- Track project progress, manage deliverables, and prepare final commissioning reports.
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule and budget.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support integrated system commissioning.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning processes and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in commissioning or system startup, preferably in industrial or mission-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and water treatment systems.
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure and operational requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and commissioning tools; experience with AI-driven workflow tools is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in remote settings and manage complex travel schedules.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Certification in NFPA70E and/or OSHA preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to travel up to 75%, including domestic and international locations.
- Must reside near a major airport to support frequent travel.
- Valid REAL ID or passport required for travel.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
