Position Overview
The company is currently hiring an experienced Automation Engineer based in the Roanoke, VA area. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in control systems who enjoys solving complex challenges and contributing to high-impact projects.
As an Automation Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing automation systems that enhance performance, reliability, and scalability. Your contributions will directly influence project outcomes and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and SCADA systems for industrial and municipal applications.
- Develop HMI/SCADA interfaces using platforms such as Ignition, Wonderware, or VTScada.
- Collaborate with project managers, panel builders, and field technicians to ensure smooth integration and execution.
- Conduct on-site commissioning, testing, and startup of control systems.
- Optimize existing systems for improved performance, efficiency, and safety.
- Provide technical documentation and support to clients and internal teams.
- Assist with project planning, estimation, and specification development.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, internal guidelines, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in automation or controls engineering.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider) and SCADA/HMI development.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
- Experience with instrumentation and field integration.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel locally and regionally for site support and system startups.
- Valid driver's license required.

- Experience in water/wastewater, manufacturing, or energy sectors.
- Familiarity with UL 508A panel design and fabrication.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
