Controls Engineer (Building Automation Systems)

Location: Atlanta, GA
Type: Full-Time

Overview

A leading building automation and HVAC controls integrator is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of BAS/BMS solutions for commercial and industrial facilities. This position will focus on engineering control systems, developing submittals, supporting field operations, and integrating complex HVAC equipment into building automation platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design BAS/BMS control systems, network architectures, and control panel layouts.
  • Develop engineering submittals, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and system documentation.
  • Select and specify DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, VFDs, and related field devices.
  • Support integration of HVAC systems including AHUs, VAVs, chiller plants, boilers, DOAS, and VRF systems.
  • Configure and support building automation platforms and communication protocols.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technicians, and commissioning teams throughout project delivery.
  • Provide technical support during installation, startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience within Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) or HVAC Controls.
  • Experience designing and engineering control systems for commercial buildings.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, sequences of operation, and control strategies.
  • Experience with Niagara Framework or similar BAS platforms.
  • Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and other building systems communication protocols.
  • Ability to produce control drawings, submittals, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Niagara certification or equivalent BAS platform certifications.
  • Experience with leading DDC manufacturers and controls platforms.
  • Background in commissioning, startup, or field service.
  • Familiarity with UL, NEC, and industry best practices.
