Job Title: Controls Engineer - Building Automation (Data Centers)

Location: Chantilly, VA

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Controls Engineer to join our Building Automation team, supporting mission-critical data center operations in the Chantilly area. This role focuses on the design, programming, commissioning, and support of Building Management Systems (BMS) using Tridium Niagara and Distech Controls platforms.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement BMS control strategies for HVAC, lighting, and other building systems in data center environments.
  • Program and configure Tridium Niagara and Distech controllers and front-end interfaces.
  • Perform system integration, including BACnet, Modbus, and other open protocols.
  • Lead or support commissioning and startup of control systems, ensuring functionality and performance meet design specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical engineers, and subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for installed systems, both remotely and on-site.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including control drawings, sequences of operation, and as-built records.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and cybersecurity best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in building automation, preferably in data center environments.
  • Proficiency with Tridium Niagara (AX/N4) and Distech Controls platforms.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control theory, and networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with BACnet, Modbus, and other communication protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Niagara 4 Certification (N4 TCP or equivalent).
  • Experience with data center operations, critical environments, or large-scale commercial projects.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices in building automation systems.
  • Experience with remote monitoring, analytics, or energy management platforms.
