Crew Chief
A growing, employee-focused engineering and surveying firm with deep roots in the Mountain West is seeking a Crew Chief to support transportation and public infrastructure projects throughout the region.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of roadway, utility, municipal, aviation, and land development projects while leading field survey crews and utilizing the latest survey technology. The ideal candidate is a dependable field leader who takes pride in delivering accurate work, mentoring team members, and serving as a key contributor to project success.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily field operations for a variety of survey projects
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction staking, as-built, and right-of-way surveys
- Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and other survey technology
- Ensure survey work is completed accurately, efficiently, and safely
- Review field data and maintain detailed field notes and documentation
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients in the field
- Train and mentor Instrument Operators and junior field staff
- Assist with project planning, field logistics, and scheduling
- Maintain survey equipment and vehicles
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and survey procedures
Qualifications
- 4+ years of land surveying experience
- Previous experience serving as a Crew Chief or Lead Survey Technician preferred
- Strong understanding of boundary, topographic, and construction surveying principles
- Experience with transportation, roadway, municipal, or public infrastructure projects
- Proficiency with GPS/GNSS equipment and robotic total stations
- Ability to read construction plans, staking layouts, and engineering drawings
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- LSIT certification
- Experience supporting DOT, municipal, or public works projects
- Familiarity with Trimble equipment and software
- Exposure to machine control, LiDAR, or scanning technologies
- Experience training and developing junior survey personnel
