Director of Civil Engineering
An established and growing engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering leader to establish and grow a civil engineering practice in Houston, Texas.
This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial professional to build and lead a practice, drive business development initiatives, expand client relationships, and play a key role in the strategic growth of the organisation across the Texas market.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions for a diverse client base while building a high-performing team and developing long-term client partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and grow a Civil Engineering practice in the Houston market.
- Develop and execute business development and growth strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, architects, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders.
- Lead project delivery efforts from planning through permitting and construction.
- Provide technical oversight and quality control across civil engineering projects.
- Mentor, recruit, and develop engineering professionals.
- Collaborate with other technical disciplines to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
- Manage project performance, client satisfaction, and overall practice profitability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Texas.
- 15+ years of civil engineering experience.
- Strong local network and established relationships within the Houston development and engineering community.
- Demonstrated business development and client relationship management experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing projects and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing engineering plans and supporting permitting efforts for commercial, residential, mixed-use, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience working with Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) in Texas.
- Strong understanding of site development design, including:
- Site layout and grading
- Stormwater management
- Drainage design
- Utility infrastructure
- Water quality and regulatory compliance
- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
- Successful track record of recruiting, mentoring, and developing technical staff.
