A growing general contractor is seeking an experienced Division Manager to lead, grow, and develop its federal construction division. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving business development, operational excellence, and financial performance across federal projects. The position can be based in either Arizona or Montana, with oversight of projects across multiple regions.

Position Summary

The Division Manager will be responsible for building and expanding the federal construction portfolio while overseeing all aspects of project delivery. This individual will lead business development efforts, manage key client relationships, and ensure successful execution of federal projects from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with a strong understanding of federal contracting and a track record of growing teams and revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the growth and strategic development of the federal construction division.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new federal project opportunities through business development and client engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with federal agencies, partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee the successful execution of multiple federal construction projects, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals are achieved.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to project managers, superintendents, and support staff.
  • Develop and manage division budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
  • Establish and implement operational processes, procedures, and best practices for federal projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and contracting requirements, including FAR, DFARS, and other agency-specific guidelines.
  • Collaborate with preconstruction teams on estimating, proposals, and contract negotiations.
  • Monitor project performance, mitigate risk, and resolve complex challenges.
  • Expand the division's geographic reach and capabilities while maintaining operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 12+ years of experience in commercial or federal construction, with a strong background in managing government projects.
  • Proven experience leading and growing a business unit, division, or operational team.
  • Strong knowledge of federal contracting processes and compliance requirements (FAR/DFARS).
  • Demonstrated success in business development and client relationship management within the federal sector.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and teams across geographically diverse locations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and profit/loss management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established relationships with federal agencies (e.g., USACE, VA, GSA, DoD).
  • Experience in design-build and other alternative delivery methods.
  • Familiarity with small business set-aside programs and procurement strategies.

Location & Travel

  • This role may be based in Arizona or Montana.
  • Travel is required to support project oversight, client meetings, and business development efforts.
