Want to work directly under one of the best Drainage Managers in Florida?

This is a unique opportunity for a Transportation Drainage Engineer who wants more than just another production role. You'll work directly alongside one of Florida's most respected drainage leaders, gaining mentorship, visibility, and the opportunity to grow into a larger leadership role as the team continues to expand.

We're looking for someone who can serve as a technical leader within the drainage practice, help mentor junior staff, and play a key role in delivering transportation projects throughout Florida.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Drainage Team Lead, you'll support and lead the drainage design efforts associated with transportation and roadway projects ranging from interstate improvements to local roadway expansions and corridor improvements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading drainage design for transportation projects
  • Storm drain system design
  • Pond design and stormwater management
  • Ditch and swale design
  • Culvert and cross-drain analysis/design
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic calculations
  • Roadway spread analysis
  • Stormwater treatment design
  • Water management district permitting support
  • Coordination with roadway, structures, and environmental teams
  • Mentoring and developing junior drainage engineers
  • Assisting with project management and client coordination

What Makes Someone Successful Here

The ideal candidate understands the full drainage lifecycle, not just one piece of the design process.

Strong experience with:

  • Ditch design
  • Culvert and cross-drain design

  • HEC-RAS

Also Valuable

  • GEOPAK
  • HY-8
  • Other drainage modeling or hydraulic analysis software

Candidates coming from a GEOPAK background are strongly encouraged to apply. If you've spent years designing transportation drainage in GEOPAK, the transition to ORD is typically straightforward.

What We'd Love to See

The strongest candidates will have experience with:

  • FDOT transportation projects
  • Water management district permitting
  • Pond routing and modeling
  • Stormwater treatment systems
  • BMP selection and design
  • BMP treatment trains
  • Florida's updated stormwater criteria
  • Multi-discipline transportation projects

Bonus Experience

Not required, but highly valuable:

  • Bridge hydraulics
  • HEC-RAS modeling
  • River or stream crossing analysis
  • Scour evaluations
  • Structures coordination

Leadership Opportunity

This position is more than a senior production role.

We're looking for an engineer who wants to:

  • Mentor younger staff
  • Help grow a drainage practice
  • Take ownership of project delivery
  • Build client relationships
  • Continue progressing into larger leadership responsibilities

The right individual could grow significantly within the organization over the next several years.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • PE license (or ability to obtain via comity)
  • 8+ years of transportation drainage experience preferred
  • Experience on FDOT and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of drainage design principles and permitting requirements
  • Ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers

The Ideal "Unicorn" Candidate

A candidate with:

  • OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • ICPR / StormWise
  • HEC-RAS
  • Pond design experience
