A privately held engineering and consulting firm with a long history is seeking a mid-level Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Engineer to contribute to cross-functional projects in the energy and utility industries. Role Summary
My client is looking for a consultant, with 3+ years of experience who is looking to deepen their expertise in both electrical and control systems design. The role involves hands-on design work, technical coordination, and opportunities for growth into leadership or project management. Candidates should have a strong foundation in either electrical or instrumentation disciplines and a willingness to expand across both.

Responsibilities

Electrical Design

  • Prepare electrical design packages including one-line diagrams, grounding plans, lighting layouts, and conduit routing.
  • Develop cable schedules, interconnection diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Perform basic calculations for load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and cable/conduit sizing.
  • Assist in equipment selection and specification for switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, UPS, and distribution panels.
  • Support development of BOMs, datasheets, and procurement documentation.
  • Use analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM) to assist with system studies.

Instrumentation & Controls

  • Contribute to I&C design packages including instrument lists, loop diagrams, control panel layouts, and wiring schematics.
  • Collaborate on P&IDs and control philosophies with other disciplines.
  • Assist in specifying PLCs, RTUs, instrumentation, and control system components.
  • Support development of cause & effect matrices, network architecture diagrams, and panel BOMs.
  • Coordinate with vendors for instrumentation and control panel integration.

General Responsibilities

  • Participate in proposal development, including scope, budget, and schedule input.
  • Conduct site visits for data collection and retrofit planning.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams to produce coordinated design packages.
  • Interface with clients and vendors to align on technical requirements.
  • Support construction activities including RFIs, redlines, and field verification.
  • Maintain quality standards and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience; consulting experience preferred.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and electrical analysis software.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $115,000 - $170,000 annually
  • Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and location.
  • Eligible for discretionary year-end bonus program.
