Role Overview
As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing detailed electrical and/or mechanical cost estimates for a wide range of projects, including conceptual, design-build, and general tender work. You will independently assess materials, labor, and equipment costs based on project documentation and specifications, contributing to successful project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for projects of varying size and complexity.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and proposals to determine material and labor requirements.
- Calculate cost factors to support project planning, scheduling, vendor selection, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
- Draft and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs) to suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure alignment and support for cost estimates.
- Utilize estimating software such as Accubid to perform precise calculations.
- Review and analyze current estimating practices to identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.
- Work with fellow estimators and leadership to determine indirect costs and overheads.
- Mentor junior estimators, providing guidance on quantity take-offs and pricing strategies.
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support project and company goals.
Qualifications
- 3 to 25+ years of experience in construction estimating, particularly in the automotive, data center, or heavy industrial sectors.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field or trade certification is preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical drawings, including the ability to interpret schematics.
- Familiarity with industry standards, electrical trade scopes, and bid submission protocols.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experienced with Accubid Estimating Software.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
