Engineering Project Manager

Job Summary:

The selected candidate will lead and execute technical work for power generation project development from early concept through engineering and construction. The primary focus is on natural‑gas‑fueled technologies, including combustion turbines (simple/combined cycle) and large reciprocating engines.

The role may also support projects involving carbon capture, CO₂ transport, and geologic storage.

This position works closely with multidisciplinary internal teams and external partners, including consultants, equipment suppliers, contractors, customers, and financial stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage all engineering activities associated with project development.
  • Evaluate plant layouts and configuration options.
  • Lead technology assessments to optimize performance and cost.
  • Establish design criteria and guide conceptual engineering.
  • Track technology trends and supplier offerings.
  • Create performance models and estimates (capacity, efficiency, heat balances, water use).
  • Conduct site technical assessments (constructability, geotechnical, hydrology, permitting).
  • Prepare and review development and construction schedules.
  • Support technical risk assessments for project prioritization.
  • Identify creative engineering solutions to improve output and reduce cost/schedule impacts.
  • Oversee technical specifications and bid processes for equipment and engineering services.
  • Prepare capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Produce clear technical reports and documentation.
  • Maintain organized project technical files.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Education, Experience & Skills

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field.
  • 5-10 years of engineering experience in the energy or power sector.
  • Background with combustion turbine or reciprocating engine projects (design, permitting, or construction).
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, project scheduling).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently solve complex technical problems.
  • Highly organized and effective in fast‑paced, multi‑tasked settings.
  • Team‑oriented with the ability to serve as a technical expert.
Preferred Requirements:
  • 10+ years of power generation project engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in early‑stage development of power projects.
  • Familiarity with performance modeling software (e.g., Thermoflow).
  • Experience with pipeline projects.
  • Understanding of electric grid interconnection processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience with GIS tools.
  • Programming skills (Python or Visual Basic).
