Environmental Planner
About the Opportunity
A growing environmental consulting organization is seeking an experienced environmental planning professional to lead complex environmental review, permitting, and compliance efforts for public and private sector projects. This role combines project management, client engagement, technical leadership, and environmental planning expertise.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to identify environmental constraints, develop permitting strategies, prepare technical documentation, and support projects from initial planning through construction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead environmental planning and permitting efforts for a variety of infrastructure, land development, and resource-related projects.
- Prepare and oversee environmental analyses, reports, assessments, and regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate with internal technical teams and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
- Conduct field investigations and site assessments as needed.
- Manage environmental review processes and secure required agency approvals.
- Monitor project compliance during construction and implementation phases.
- Provide technical guidance related to environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and work plans.
- Mentor junior staff and support team development.
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation and strategic planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, biology, ecology, natural resources, geography, or a related field.
- Several years of professional experience in environmental consulting, planning, permitting, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong understanding of environmental review processes and permitting frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with GIS, GPS, and standard business software applications.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in various environmental conditions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
