About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced EPC Commercial Manager to lead the negotiation and management of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts with local contractors and vendors for renewable energy projects across Japan. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful commercial execution of utility-scale clean energy infrastructure developments.
The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English and Japanese, possess a strong understanding of the Japanese construction and energy market, and have a proven track record in EPC contract negotiation, vendor procurement, and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the commercial negotiation and execution of EPC contracts with Japanese contractors and suppliers.
- Oversee vendor procurement activities, including sourcing, evaluating, and contracting with local and international equipment and service providers.
- Collaborate with internal teams including engineering, legal, finance, and project development to align contract and procurement terms with project goals.
- Manage contractual and procurement risk, ensuring compliance with local regulations, technical standards, and company policies.
- Support bid evaluations, cost benchmarking, and contractor/vendor selection processes.
- Monitor and manage contract and vendor performance, including change orders, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Provide commercial input during project development, budgeting, and execution phases.
- Maintain strong relationships with local contractors, vendors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
- Translate and interpret technical and legal documents as needed to support cross-functional teams.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Law, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in EPC contract negotiation, commercial management, and vendor procurement, preferably in the renewable energy or infrastructure sector.
- Fluent in both Japanese and English (spoken and written).
- Strong knowledge of Japanese construction laws, procurement practices, and local contractor/vendor landscape.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with international IPPs, developers, or EPC firms.
- Familiarity with local and international contract standards.
- Understanding of renewable energy technologies and project lifecycles.
