Location: San Diego, CA (Must reside in San Diego or Riverside Counties)
Reports To: Director of Estimating & Interconnects
Type: Full-time, Exempt
About the Role
Cal Solar Inc is seeking a seasoned Estimator to lead the development of competitive bids for commercial, industrial, and retrofit solar projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across teams to deliver accurate and timely proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specs, and RFPs to assess scope, risks, and cost drivers.
- Perform quantity take-offs and build detailed estimates using internal software.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather pricing and validate assumptions.
- Prepare and submit complete bid packages, including clarifications and exclusions.
- Support project handoffs and execution with Operations and Engineering teams.
- Maintain organized bid documentation and historical pricing data.
- Stay current on industry trends, codes, and estimating tools.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of electrical estimating experience; solar PV experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Strong understanding of building/electrical codes and NFPA 70E.
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., PVBid, Accubid) and Google Workspace.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and time management skills.
- Ability to travel within California as needed.
