Job Title: Remote Estimator - Electric Utilities, Substation & Civil

Position Overview

My client is seeking an experienced Estimator with a strong background in electric utility projects, including substation construction, transmission, distribution, and civil works. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in preparing accurate cost estimates for large-scale utility projects and a deep understanding of industry standards and practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for electric utility projects, including substations, transmission lines, and civil infrastructure.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and technical documents to determine scope and pricing.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
  • Prepare material take-offs, labor calculations, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Review and validate vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain cost databases and historical pricing records for continuous improvement.
  • Support proposal development and participate in bid reviews with senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in estimating for electric utility projects, including substations and civil works.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, HeavyBid, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with major utility companies such as Exelon, PPL, and PSE&G.
  • Familiarity with utility-specific standards and bidding processes.
  • Experience with transmission and distribution projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
