Position Overview
My client is seeking an experienced Estimator with a strong background in electric utility projects, including substation construction, transmission, distribution, and civil works. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in preparing accurate cost estimates for large-scale utility projects and a deep understanding of industry standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed cost estimates for electric utility projects, including substations, transmission lines, and civil infrastructure.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and technical documents to determine scope and pricing.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
- Prepare material take-offs, labor calculations, and subcontractor pricing.
- Review and validate vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain cost databases and historical pricing records for continuous improvement.
- Support proposal development and participate in bid reviews with senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in estimating for electric utility projects, including substations and civil works.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, HeavyBid, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with major utility companies such as Exelon, PPL, and PSE&G.
- Familiarity with utility-specific standards and bidding processes.
- Experience with transmission and distribution projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
