An established, employee‑owned architecture and engineering firm is seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to support the growth of its fire protection practice. This role is based in Alexandria, VA and offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects across federal, municipal, university, and industrial markets.
Position Overview
In this role, you will provide technical leadership in the design and analysis of both active and passive fire protection systems. You will collaborate within interdisciplinary design teams, develop project documentation, and mentor junior engineers. You'll work closely with a senior engineer to produce narratives, specifications, reports, and coordinated drawing packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the design of fire alarm, fire suppression, and passive fire protection systems.
- Produce building and life safety code analyses and perform fire suppression system calculations.
- Develop design deliverables including technical reports, specifications, calculations, and drawings using tools such as Revit®, Microsoft® software, and hydraulic calculation programs.
- Participate in design reviews, help steer design direction, and ensure quality and performance standards are met.
- Visit project sites to gather system information and validate existing conditions.
- Review shop drawings and provide construction administration during system installation.
Requirements
- Self‑motivated, collaborative, and able to work both independently and within a team.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Minimum 4 years of fire protection engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, having passed the NCEES Fire Protection Engineering exam.
- Eligible to work in the United States and obtain a security clearance.
Preferred Experience
- Fire protection design for Federal Government facilities.
- Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
