Head of Data Center, Hyperscale

About the Opportunity

Our client is a rapidly growing hyperscale digital infrastructure platform with ambitious expansion plans across Asia. As part of its continued growth in Indonesia, they are seeking an experienced Head of Data Center to lead the country's hyperscale data center business.

This is a critical leadership position with full responsibility for the success of the Indonesian platform, encompassing strategy, business growth, operations, construction, engineering, customer engagement, and financial performance. The successful candidate will be viewed as a potential future Country CEO / Managing Director, making this a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader with a well-rounded blend of technical, commercial, and operational expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute the Indonesia growth strategy in alignment with regional business objectives.
• Drive long-term planning for capacity expansion, market positioning, customer acquisition, and operational excellence.
• Identify market opportunities, emerging trends, and competitive dynamics to enhance business growth.
• Represent the company with customers, government agencies, industry bodies, investors, and strategic partners.

Business & Commercial Management

• Own the country's P&L performance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial targets.
• Support sales and commercial teams in securing hyperscale, cloud, AI, enterprise, and colocation customers.
• Lead contract negotiations and strategic customer engagements.
• Develop commercial strategies to maximize utilization, revenue growth, and profitability.
• Build and maintain executive-level relationships with hyperscalers, cloud providers, investors, and key stakeholders.

Data Center Operations

• Provide executive oversight of all operational data center activities, ensuring world-class reliability, uptime, and customer experience.
• Drive operational excellence through process optimization, risk management, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to industry best practices, environmental requirements, safety standards, and regulatory obligations.
• Lead incident management, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.

Engineering & Infrastructure Development

• Oversee the full lifecycle of data center development, from site selection and due diligence through design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness.
• Collaborate with engineering, design, and construction teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to hyperscale standards.
• Provide strategic guidance on power, cooling, sustainability, capacity planning, and future technology adoption.
• Drive innovation and efficiency across engineering and operational functions.

Leadership & Organizational Development

• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing multidisciplinary team across operations, engineering, construction, commercial, and support functions.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and operational excellence.
• Develop succession planning and leadership pipelines to support long-term business growth.
• Act as a key member of the regional leadership team, contributing to broader strategic initiatives.

Requirements

Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related discipline. Master's degree or MBA is highly preferred.
• Minimum 15+ years of experience within data centers, digital infrastructure, telecommunications, mission-critical facilities, or related industries.
• Proven leadership experience managing large-scale hyperscale, colocation, cloud, or mission-critical infrastructure businesses.
• Demonstrated track record overseeing multiple functions, including operations, engineering, construction, commercial, and business management.
• Experience managing significant P&L responsibility and driving business growth.
• Strong understanding of hyperscale customer requirements and data center operating models.
• Experience engaging with executive stakeholders, board members, investors, and government authorities.

Technical & Commercial Expertise

• Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, MEP systems, capacity planning, and critical environments.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to evaluate investments, business cases, and growth opportunities.
• Knowledge of data center development, project delivery, and operational best practices.
• Ability to bridge technical requirements with commercial outcomes.
