Highway Engineer
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Highway Engineer to join our growing transportation infrastructure team in Fort Wayne. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of impactful roadway and highway design projects that enhance mobility and safety across Indiana. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for delivering innovative engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the design of roadway and highway projects, including urban, rural, and freeway corridors.
- Prepare detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with state and local standards.
- Utilize design software such as Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or Autodesk Civil 3D to develop geometric layouts, grading, drainage, and traffic control plans.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, structural, and environmental engineers.
- Conduct field investigations and site visits to gather data and assess project conditions.
- Assist in preparing technical reports, feasibility studies, and design documentation.
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and the public to present project concepts and respond to feedback.
- Support project management tasks including scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in highway or roadway design; DOT experience preferred.
- Proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D.
- Strong understanding of AASHTO and state DOT design standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- EIT certification required; PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
